Unintentionally Funny, Must-Watch Bollywood Movies: Raavan

I’ll be honest… I’d been excited about Raavan for a while now. It’s the sorta movie that I go into knowing that it’ll either blow me away, or gimme a lotta fodder for my next comic. Well, go into it, I did… And I hope you’re not skipping out on too much work to read this, because there’s a lo-oooo-oot of fodder to be had here.

  99. Vikramaditya Bagri says:

  100. Hackie Chan says:

And a little addition, the dayamned SP sez “Hath jao Radhika” instead of Ragini in the end of the movie when he starts shooting! Junta check out that lil goof if u haven’t caught it yet πŸ˜‰ Seems he didnt spend enough footage time with his wifey that he didn’t even remember her name πŸ˜›

    Thnaks yaar………Awesome work n i loved it….

  124. […] Rizwan, who is living, breathing proof that a picture is worth a thousand words, nails it with his stick figure review of ‘Raavan’ on The Vigil Idiot. Please read through to the very end – the last ‘Sholay Reunion’ panel is worth a […]

  125. Girl83 says:

I havent seen the movie yet, but guess i wont be so disappointed after all cos i can watch out for ur comic adaptation of the movie in the movie.
U should take this talent seriously.

  126. Shakthi Girish says:

BAM! In the middle of the forehead, was this piece.
Succinct, 100% true and as a famous Hollywood character once said, “It’s in the booooooooooooooone!”
Sadly, as a watcher of several movies, a super-severe Mani Ratnam fan, a big-ass (no, not borrowed from you) Vikram fan… oh, and most importantly, a magazine Editor and voracious socialite… I can’t put this up anywhere officially for fear of retribution. :))

    • Aprajith says:

One loses his freedom to express, if he his from the same fraternity. I’m going through the same problem and it’s horrible.

  127. Gattu says:

Now I know why I should refer this site to my friends. Dude you have saved me a lot of money over the past few months. πŸ™‚

  128. Aprajith says:

The same points u mentioned were told many times to many people around me but there is a whole world out there which supports maniratnam, no matter what. To me, he is one who never goes deep and handles on the surface only. He is just one fuckin’ pretending intellectual.

  129. Badrinarayanan says:

    Fuckin A man πŸ™‚
    Absolutely brilliant πŸ˜€

  130. Pranz says:

    fucking awesome duded

  137. Prakash J says:

    Awesome stuff!!

  138. Basu says:

this was too good… more fun watching it this way πŸ˜€

  139. Jacob Sahayam says:

North Indians do not have the brains to appreciate a Mani Ratnam masterpiece. Go on and watch rubbish like Housefull, My Name is Khan and Dostana. Raavanan, the Tamil version, is a super hit. You pathetic jokers continue watching your Shahrukh khans and karan johars.

  140. Jacob Sahayam says:

Ah! Just learnt that the author’s name is Rizwan. Now I can understand the desperate attempt to belittle a movie that does not have (or is not made by) a Khan!

    • Salil's Fan Now says:

My Gowd, Yeh to Super Senti ho Gaya.

Rizwan, for my sake, please draw him a map to show that there are at least four cardinal directions, and not Two – viz. North & South!

    • Arpit says:

Dude…..check out the reviews of Kurbaan, London Dreams and My Name is Khan and STFU

    • Albin says:

@Jacob Sahayam – You are having such a narrow mind. I love vigilidiot. But I don’t comment much here. But your comment made me to response. Please do a favor by not giving such bull shit comment and I think you are a complete loser.

    • PinkParasol says:

Hey Jacob, congratulations on being voted the BIGOT of the year. Have never read such a communalist and racist comment in my life. I literally felt sick to my stomach when I read your comment.

    • Xena says:

You don’t seem to be well acquainted with Sahil’s website. He has dissed MNIK (that’s a Khan movie) royally… a bad movie gets a bad review.
And for the record… Sahil is a South Indian… if u think that being named Rizwan makes him love Khans more or some such BS!

    • M says:

      you’re a massive bigot

  141. Ruchik says:

    Brilliant review ….hahah

  142. Dhruti says:

Aww so swit!! lolol! i enjoyed every bit of this…

    Rayban was the best

  146. Albin says:

This one is real classic. I can read this again and again….. omg still not stopped laughing..

  147. Shan says:

    @Jacob Sahayam:

You are an idiot. That’s all.

  148. kalyan says:

    Epic ! Awesome ! Funny ! Brilliant \m/

  149. Superb says:

    Superb man

  150. Shruti says:

lol…good one! “it was the ‘editing’ ” πŸ˜›

  151. sonia says:

    U kick some royal arse!
    i bow down to thee!!!!

    splendid work!
    keep it coming!
    i’m in awe…and def ROTFLMAO

  152. Manek Ravi says:

EDITING was the fault… that was the masterpiece…..

You seem to find blunders in the movies which 80% of the audience don’t realize while watching the movie… bollywood movies are watched by the fans with a complete different mindset… they are in another world…

u should really try south indian movies…. u can see flying, slicing the bullet into 2, driving a car by pulling the accelerator cable with the teeth… the list is neverending…

Anyways thanks… these things really take the pressure off when we take breaks during worktime…

    keep going…..

    • Salil's Fan Now says:

It might be interesting to watch if you ever met Jacob. Please record the meeting for us.

  153. Ankana Chakraborty says:

  154. philip says:

awesome reveiw man……..great…really great….heard that the hindi version sucks…tamil is better though

  155. Nitish says:

Shit, I watched the damn movie on the first day of its release expecting too many things.
Why can’t we make classy movies without too many holes ?
After watching this movie, I watched the ‘The Godfather’ and ‘The Truman Show’ back-to-back. It soothed some of my hunger for a good movie. πŸ™‚ I am not saying the movies which I stated are the best I’ve seen…it is just that they are good and better than most movies…because they are unique and original.
Ofcourse, good films come from the Hindi and South Indian Movie Industries(I just hate the words ‘Bollywood’ , ‘Kollywood’,’Sandalwood’ etc)like…once in a year…it is just not enough.

Sahil…do you think you can make a good movie if given the chance, or will you make a ‘Blue’ film?(Sorry for the pun πŸ™‚

  156. Sambitesh Dash says:

Damn it ! Love the recurring Sholay reunion joke

  157. Mukesh says:

Dude! rocking… Keep up the good work.

  158. eliza bennet says:

Just when I thought I couldn’t laugh more, comes the Sholay reunion! Shabbash and thank you for all the laughter.

I’m still eager to see the film btw.

  159. BigNasty says:

God darn man!!! god darn!!! This comic is my Fodder for laughter…hell yea!! FTW man FTW!! πŸ˜€
    Keep ’em comin bro πŸ™‚

  160. ultimate creativity yaaarrr…… finally, the movie itself cam out to be the real raavan πŸ˜€ haha

  161. Ami says:

  163. Radhika says:

Sahil, your review was simply fabulous ! I’m thinking of watching this movie just to check out the oscar worthy scenes described here ! πŸ™‚

  164. Addsmiles says:

I expected the movie to be crap hence skipped it. You need actors and not stars to make a good movie. After reading this review, i am going to watch movie, just for the laughs.
There are at least some pros of a bad movie…reviews like this. Hats off.

  165. ashwini reddy mandadi says:

    awesome!!!! u r really good at what u r doing!!1

  166. manish says:

    hats off…..!

  167. kutti says:

I saw the movie and did not understand some portions. After reading your review, I completely understood the story. You are brilliant.

  168. JV says:

One of your best works Sahil !

  169. nupur says:

I am still waiting for your strip on Kites!

  170. genie says:

Sahil dude you seriously rock. Jungle Baywatch, Ray Ban positioning, Bullets swerving and of course the Sholay Reunion panel – all fantabulous.

Only complaint (not related to this strip) – Where is the strip for “Kites”? Please dont disappoint us by skipping that monstrosity.

  171. Arpit says:

EPIC!!! Sholay frame was “Cake on the icing”

  172. Deepak says:

    Too good!!

  173. Aarabi says:

spot on πŸ™‚ next time, you can add the sabyasachi outfits ash seemed to find in the jungle too… wish i were lost in a jungle like that!

  174. Rahul says:

HaHaHaaa.. loved the cartoon.. but the movie too.. for that matter ramayana would be as funny and stupid as this cartoon if tried to cover in 3 hours. nice cartoon, but still love the movie, the movie is more about comments and perspective than anything else, which were brilliant yet very subtle.

  175. udhayashankar says:

well, author, pls write a word of caution in the beginning that it has the whole story – so that people who are intrested in watching are not stolen out of the suspense/excitement.

  182. vaibhav says:

I Love, Mani, but seriously disappointed with Raavan, as someone pointed out the movie itself turned out to be Raavan πŸ™‚ !!! It is still unbelievable that a man who made GURU came out with such a stupid movie…

Like you I was also pretty excited about this movie and drove 1 and half hour and spend 50 bucks (gas+ticket) to watch the first day show. In the end I returned all frustrated and the movie was total was waste of money and time. But anyways once its DVD is released I am going to watch it again. For sure I am going to enjoy it this time. Esp SP Dev’s RayBan and AB’s “Jhak Jhak Bak Bak Dark Knight” attempt :). Good job!!!!

  206. Vidooshak says:

Ratnam has been going downhill ever since he hitched his wagon to Abh_Ash. This story had no motivations at all, you never felt for any characters. What a waste! Will we never have another Nayagan from the man who just ended up giving competition to RGV for the dud of the century?

  207. Raseel says:

    Awesome shit !! LOLing non-stop

  208. msj says:

love the trajectory of the bullets in the end….

  209. Harish says:

  214. chetan says:

    awesome dude!!!

  215. Sifar says:

Weakest of your strips… this movie in no way was unintentionally funny… tribals may be uneducated but so far our Indian govt. is unable to stop naxalism (in reference to your 3 trucks bullshit)… as for as the monkey man is concerned yes this movie was a bit poetic in reference to Ramayana. This is the best portrayal of Ramayana in modern times… and boss this strip seemed to be inspired more from the likes of ‘joker- taran adarsh’ and many like him. “Beera is raavan or robinhood” is not a bad dialog by any means maybe some were thinking to hear Shakespearean dialog out of tribals but then it was not the theme of movie…

By the way was hoping to see your strip on Rajneeti but it seems you liked that awfully stupid movie…

  216. Sukanya says:

Tooooooooooo good. Man crazyyyyy i laughed my life out…… exactly how i felt……

  224. bajji says:

ravan :”jhgak jhak hak bak bak bak ”

    excelllent ……

  225. Zizi says:

To choose the movies you’re going to watch on the basis of which one would turn out to be best suited for a comic-strip-review like this one is a totally new approach to entertainment. I’m awed.

Hope to read more of these. Keep going!

  226. soumya says:

    awesome is d word

  227. Arpit says:

Well, your comic inspired me to watch the movie and I must say I loved the movie (because of the comic ofcourse πŸ˜‰ ). Though the truly EPIC ending to the movie would have that when Officers shoot Beera…his blood falls on Raagini’s maang.

  228. Varun says:

Absolutely epic !! this should win an award !!

  229. sam says:

  231. Argentyne says:

I think once movie producers and theatre owners start realizing how much you’re costing them in ticket sales you might get into serious trouble.

    Amazing as usual.

  232. ravi says:

if mani ratnam had seen this story board, he could have saved 150 crores charged to unfortunate Reliance customers.

  233. Shreela says:

funny! loved de sunglasses part. weird annoying movie.

  234. Uma says:

This was brilliant…. When we were watching the movie, we were ROTF laughing… when we read your review…. ROTF again laughing about this review… Wish Mani Sir had thought of some kinda logic before naming the movie or even starting work on it… The situations were so force fit to the title… But if not for a movie like that, we wouldnt have got reviews like this… Keep it up Sahil!!!

  235. Scorpria says:

Oh my. I wish i read this BEFORE watching it. But i read another one…and i was laughing all through the film!!!
Creativity at its peak! Awesome !!

  236. I think this comic roll should accompany the original DVD for people who are curious but just not interested enough to give up three hours of their time. Thanks.

  237. Pranay says:

as much as i appreciate your creativity that you often display, i suggest you to go easy sometimes. Film-making isnt an easy task, and if your purpose is simply to diss a movie without considering its positives, its not such an appreciated task from that point of view.

  238. Amruta Phansalker says:

Hey we are waiting for some new reviews from you. Its been long. πŸ™‚
