Over the years, I have seen more than my fair share of Television. This includes religious following of every television fad from the “Popular-American-Show-Dubbed-in-Hindi” Phase (Small Wonder, Superhuman Samurai Cybersquad, & the like), to the “Quiz Show” Phase (BQC, KBC), to the current “Unbelievably Scripted Reality Show” Phase . However, there is one TV fad that never really caught on with me.. The Star Soap Parivaar! I guess I never really got the novelty of the thing. Lemme rephrase that. No one, other than bored housewives, really got the novelty of the thing. I mean, I can understand a ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki’ here, and a ‘Kyunki…’ there, catching on TRP fire. But going by the sheer volume of these mondo-hit soaps, there is obviously something that we’re all missing here.

Having said that, just because we don’t get it, doesn’t mean we can’t profit off of it, right? Primetime Soap Operas have been going through a lull lately.
